We are the global alliance of regions with a mediterranean climate, working together to adapt to drought, wildfire, and heat.

regions with mediterranean environments share climate challenges

More than 2% of the total global land area across
5 continents with similar cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers

Home to more than 600 million people and 5 of the world’s 36 biodiversity hotspots

Highly developed tourism and agricultural sectors that are critical to the global economy and trade

Increasingly impacted by climate change via more frequent and severe droughts, wildfires, and extreme heat

Our Members

Our sixteen members span five continents, but share a common set of environmental characteristics and subsequent challenges driven by a changing climate.

With their shared characteristics and experiences, Mediterranean regions must come together to more effectively communicate as a unified voice to elevate the urgency of climate impacts on the global stage and advocate for resources to accelerate climate adaptation and resilience

Subnational Leadership in Mediterranean Bioregions

The Mediterranean Climate Action Partnership aims to:

Accelerate concrete actions in mediterranean regions to protect communities from climate change impacts and increase biodiversity, adaptation, and resilience.

Exchange approaches on policies, programs and governance, advance shared knowledge on trends and impacts to unearth the best solutions to confront shared climate threats

Build capacity to unlock funding and technical assistance needed to scale implementation of adaptation solutions on drought, wildfire, and extreme heat

With leadership from the Government of Catalonia, Spain, and the State of California, United States of America leaders across impacted Mediterranean regions have come together to drive collective action around drought, wildfire, and extreme heat. Our three-year action agenda is organized around three goals:

What We Do

Advance learning and effective responses through member convenings and knowledge sharing

2026 Outcomes: Regions share information and best practices (technical, policy, implementation exchanges, site visits, and research and analysis) to build climate resilience and adapt to climate impacts.

Accelerate action and policy outcomes supporting mitigation, adaptation, and resilience

2026 Outcomes: Collective work to implement on-the-ground solutions and aligned efforts that build technical and long-term capacity in regions, and climate resilience within and across all MCAP communities, ecosystems, and economies.

Elevate awareness through innovative communications, amplified through a common voice

2026 Outcomes: Communicate climate risks in regions to vulnerable populations, funders, practitioners, and decision-makers – including other mediterranean regions and international audiences – to mobilize diverse funding and technical assistance for adaptation solutions.
