Commissioned by the MCAP Co-Chair Catalonia, the Center for Research on Ecology and Forestry Applications (Centre de Recerca Ecològica i Aplicacions Forestals), or CREAF, released their study “Climate Change Impacts on Biodiversity in Catalonia & California: Key Findings and Recommendations: Drought, Wildfire, and Marine Heat Waves”.
Assessing drought in freshwater systems and forest systems, wildfires, and marine heat waves, the study examines vulnerabilities, impacts, policy frameworks, and options for adaptation. It draws on regional climate and biodiversity reports, peer-reviewed research, policy documents, and interviews with experts from both regions. This report is the first contribution toward an integrated analysis across MCAP member regions to facilitate structured comparative learning between regions with similar ecological conditions and different governance systems.
