MCAP Leads Investment and Collaboration in Climate Adaptation
The Mediterranean Climate Action Partnership (MCAP) is proud to announce a renewed wave of regional climate leadership, as member regions reaffirm their shared dedication to advancing climate action and resilience across the Mediterranean and beyond. Since its inception, the MCAP partnership has directed over $1.8 million to support the Partnership’s goal to bring global attention to Mediterranean bioregions, capacitate subnational governments in driving climate adaptation, and facilitate shared learnings across leaders in this space to catalyze implementation. This includes:
Significant philanthropic partnership, totalling $700,000 in grant funding from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and $400,000 from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to support ongoing operations, projects, and convenings since MCAP’s launch in 2023 through 2027.
In a united show of solidarity and determination, MCAP member regions have contributed or pledged financial contributions totaling over $419,000 since 2024 to support collaborative climate initiatives, innovation, and the implementation of sustainable solutions.
The MCAP member regions of Catalonia, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Santiago de Chile, and Western Cape have invested $225,500 in Partnership activities, signaling the importance of subnational climate action and investment in collaboration to address shared climate challenges for Mediterranean bioregions, like wildfire, drought, and extreme heat.
Through the Fair Future project, the European Union committed $328,299 to support knowledge exchange and convenings with MCAP member regions to advance adaptation and resilience practice and projects.
In June 2025, member regions also voted to adopt membership dues into the MCAP charter, delivering direct funding from regional governments to the Partnership, and the Secretariat anticipates $150,000 from member regions in 2026.
The MCAP Secretariat also estimates the in-kind time contribution from MCAP member regions to total more than 2,300 hours for Annual Convenings, quarterly Leadership Council meetings, working group technical exchanges, and project implementation through the mini-sprint efforts.
These contributions reflect the deep commitment of MCAP regions to jointly tackle climate challenges through regional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and strategic investment in resilient, low-carbon development. As climate risks grow increasingly complex, this collaboration underscores the critical role of subnational governments in delivering measurable climate action, ensuring local priorities are addressed on the global stage.
MCAP extends its sincere gratitude to all contributing regions for their leadership and financial support. Together, we are driving transformative change—locally, regionally, and globally.
