2026 Convening Announcement

  • 🌎 Mark your calendars! The 2026 MCAP Annual Convening kicks off in Los Angeles!

California and LA are becoming a hub for global climate leadership. From April 14–17, Mediterranean Climate leaders from Athens, Santiago, Cape Town, and beyond will gather here, allowing LA to become a global “test kitchen" for Mediterranean resilience against  drought, wildfire, and extreme heat.

MCAP’s subnational-led, bioregional program approach uniquely positions these members to convert local insight into collective action.  To leverage this position, this year’s convening is focused on teaming up to share solutions and advance action together to protect communities and ensure long-term economic and environmental vitality.

Meet the Members

  • 🌍 Meet the MCAP Member Regions The Mediterranean Climate Action Partnership (MCAP) is a global alliance of subnational governments working to protect their communities, economies, and ecosystems from the growing impacts of drought, wildfire, and extreme heat.

What brings these regions together is more than climate — its climate type. Mediterranean climate zones exist on five continents, sharing seasonal patterns of hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. That common baseline brings with it shared risks — and shared opportunity for collaboration.

MCAP is a member-driven partnership. Each member plays a key role in guiding MCAP’s strategy, shaping joint initiatives, and contributing to the Leadership Council and technical work groups. The goal is clear: translate knowledge into action, and support locally grounded solutions that can be adapted and scaled globally.

Current MCAP Member Regions: 🇲🇽 Baja California Sur 🇨🇱 Biobío & Santiago de Chile 🇺🇸 California 🇪🇸 Catalonia 🇬🇷 Central Greece 🇫🇷 Occitanie & Region Sud 🇮🇹 Emilia-Romagna 🇦🇺 New South Wales, South Australia & Victoria 🇲🇦 Oriental Maroc, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra & Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima 🇿🇦 Western Cape

From vineyard valleys to coastal cities, wildfire zones to drought-stressed regions, these governments are leading where the impacts are most direct — and where innovation is already underway.

As MCAP continues to grow, these regions are setting the tone: implementation-focused, member-led, and grounded in local realities with global reach.

From Inauguration to Implementation

  • 🌍 From Inauguration to Implementation: MCAP in Motion

Implementation was only the beginning. The 3rd Annual MCAP Convening will transform Los Angeles into a global hub of climate resiliency.

    Member regions are:

    • Piloting climate solutions in real-world settings through MCAP “living labs” focused on extreme heat, wildfire, and water resilience

    • Demonstrating interventions on the ground — from cool pavement and urban cooling strategies to wildfire risk reduction and water reuse systems

    • Bringing regional leaders into shared environments to test, refine, and learn from implementation in real time

The urgency is clear — and MCAP is helping turn shared challenges into coordinated action.
